Berkshire Hathaway Life of Nebraska, First Berkshire Hathaway Life Insurance Company and Columbia Insurance Company retained their "AA+" Standard & Poors ratings despite the parent company going to an "AA" on May 16,2013.

S&P said its rating "reflects Berkshire's strong financial risk profile and strong balance sheet", and (together with New York Life) the annuity issuers and reinsurer in the Berkshire Hathaway group still enjoy the highest rating of any insurance company issuing structured settlement annuities.
