Mount Airy MD resident David Springer has been found liable by Judge Marvin Garbis, for Trademark Infringement under the Lanham Act and Common Law Defamation

Judge Marvin Garbis issued his decision in Woodbridge Structured Funding, LLC vs David Springer Civil Action 1:11-cv-03421-MJG, on March 30, 2015, 7 months after a 4 day bench trial last August in which the Court also concludes that Springer was operating under “purported corporate names“, including ” Sovereign Funding”. The case now moves to the remedy phase where Judge Garbis will address Plaintiff Woodbridge Structured Funding’s claims for injunctive relief and an award of monetary damages. It is not known if Springer will appeal. (emphasis added)
The legal case against David Springer stemmed from the Mt. Airy resident’s We BuyPayments.Net Redirect Scheme
David Springer’s scheme, which I extensively reported about at the time was unfortunate for him. and a waste of time for many others.
Soringer’s August 2014 trial, was notable for
David Springer’s prattling, disorganized efforts to defend himself (having gone through two expensive law firms and racked up huge bills);
David Springer’s wasting most of his time on irrelevant questions that did not help his defense;
Springer bizarrely threatening a witness who was on the stand, by asking him (and by implication the Court as well) if he was aware that a certain Congressman from Maryland, the late Elijah Cummings, was monitoring the case (which was simply not true, according a chief staffer of the Congressman Cummings who I contacted and spoke directly with);
David Springer’s wife Melissa Springer, a Columbia MD veterinarian and non-lawyer riding “second chair” and being permitted to ask questions of David Springer on his direct examination of himself.
DavidSpringer’s promotional video of a Fiverr actress, “Old Bitty Grandma a/k/a “Mean Milly Mouth Off” misrepresenting David Springer as a lawyer (which he was wasn’t) that was played in open court.
An unsuccessful attempt by David Springer, to introduce an unsigned purported June 2014 letter, purportedly authored by his wife Melissa Springer, purportedly to a Congressman Cummings, that was riddled with lies, in defense of 2011 conduct that the Court, having ” heard the evidence, reviewed the exhibits, considered the materials submitted by the parties, and had the benefit of the arguments of the parties, found David Springer liable.
As noted in the trial transcript, David Springer’s crying in open court while conducting an examination of a witness.
Based on a copy of purported communications I received from someone who worked for Springer in 2011 and 2012, Springer was cocky, having already “beaten” JG Wentworth (a 2011 MD state court case with similar allegations), according to a video produced by his marketing team in January 2012 and posted on YouTube. Springer mistakenly thought the Woodbridge case against him would just go way.
The Springer case is one of a number of lawsuits arising out of alleged business conduct by participants in the structured settlement secondary market that are pending throughout the United States at time of publication:
- Novation Ventures LLC v JG Wentworth [California-Central-Western Division]
