4 Structured settlement annuity issuers made the 2009 Life Health Ward's 50®  Top Performing Insurance companies:

  1. Metropolitan Life Insurance Company
  2. New York LIfe Insurance Company
  3. Symetra Life Insurance Company
  4. USAA Life Insurance Company (at the time of posting only wrote structured settlement annuities to help resolver USAA's P&C arm's claims)

Each year Ward Group analyzes the financial performance of over 3,100 property-casualty insurance companies and over 800 life-health insurance companies domiciled in the United States and benchmarks the top performers in each segment.

According to the Ward web site, each Ward's 50® company has passed all safety and consistency screens that are part of Ward's certification methodology and achieved superior performance over the five years analyzed.

While Ward's is not one of the 5 most recognizaed rating agencies (AM Best, S&P, Fitch Moodys, Weiss/The Street), Symetra is clearly buoyed by being included on this list.  A number of folks in the industry welcome a return to prominence of Symetra Life (formerly SAFECO LIfe) like having a new market in the industry following a 3 years of market consolidation.
