by Structured Settlement Watchdog
If you have a structured settlement and need cash now and the only way out is to sell your structured settlement payments, then beware of sinister efforts of certain dishonest structured settlement factoring companies to pretend that they are the structured settlement buyer that you are dealing with.
Always read the documents that you are being asked to sign.
Be on alert for
- A different notary service is used to bring you "the other document that they forgot to have to have you sign"
- Contact from different phone numbers. Always note the phone number that you have called into to make initial contact and that used to call you back if applicable. If the number is not the same hang up and call the number you know.
Due to lack of comprehensive regulation, the sub-industry that includes buyers of structured settlement payment rights is replete with fakers, forgers and fraudsters, including those with criminal records and those with bans from financial services self regulatory organizations.
Employ "counter measures". Report to the structured settlement watchdog any instances where you see this happening. You can turn it over yourself or if you send to me I will turn legitimate information over to the appropriate authorities.
