What is a "structured settlement attorney"?

The term "structured settlement attorney" is one of the key search terms driving traffic to one of the settlement industry's web sites. So I performed a Google search and sure enough a bunch of "structured settlement attorneys" come up.

" Structured Settlement Attorney"

For your consideration:

  1. You don't have to be an attorney to advise someone about a structured settlement.
  2. You need an active life insurance license, not a license to practice law in order to solicit structured settlement annuities.
  3. While this author respects the practice of law and his many friends who practice it, it is arguable whether a settlement consultant simply possessing a law degree presents any advantage to a client over a professionally qualified settlement adviser with years of experience and other relevant degrees and/or professional designations. 
  4. A commercial attorney who represents purchasers of structured settlement payment rights, pursuant to a structured settlement factoring transactions, is not a "structured settlement attorney".
