Google may be the top search engine but the oversight for its Google blog alert is in need of serious improvement for it to continue to be relevant.

Today I and others received a Google Blogs Alert for "structured settlements" with these allegedly relevant stories

  • Prophecy-Predictions for 2008 for born again believers
  • Flying Stars Feng Shui for 2007-Predictions and Remedies
  • How to Get Rid of Bed Bug Invasion

None of the posts that Google alerts us to (in this instance) provide useful information to consumers about structured settlements and the in-line "sell structured settlement" text link in the middle of the blog spam is directed to shop 24-7-365.com, a web page that is made for Google Adsense. Google therefore is conflicted in that it derives significant revenue from Google Adsense regardless of the relevancy of the ads, the relevancy of the content of the web page on which the ads appear or the utter nonsense on the blog pages derived from a Google owned blog software platform.

The spam blogs that contain the text links are authored by a random stream of consonants and vowels. Surely Google can put a validation in their blogpost registration form to filter this crap out.

For the uninitiated, you can add input validation to Web Forms pages by using validation controls. Validation controls provide an easy-to-use mechanism for all common types of standard validation — for example, testing for valid dates or values within a range — plus ways to provide custom-written validation. In addition, validation controls allow you to completely customize how error information is displayed to the user.

The Whois report for the spam blog directed website "shop24-7-365.com" states the registrant to be:

James Adams Sop 24-7 PO Box 1130 Hayes, Virginia 1-804-642-1009
