Credential Hype has seen a lawyer and settlement planner advertise legal and insurance services claiming to be Board Certified by the National Structured Settlements Trade Association and earned Board Certification and the CSSC from University of Notre Dame
CSSC=Professional Designation NOT Board Certification
As published in the NSSTA 2007 overview of the program, the Certified Structured Settlement Consultant Designation is a professional designation, NOT BOARD CERTIFICATION, offered by the National Structured Settlement Trade Association in conjunction with the Executive program at the University of Notre Dame. Candidates do not enroll at the University of Notre Dame; instead, they spend about four days on-site in South Bend, IN.
To qualify for the CSSC designation, CSSC candidates:
- must be members of NSSTA,
- successfully complete a course of study that combines on-campus and off-campus learning and
- pass a comprehensive exam. The exam covers a range of topics including insurance casualty claims practices, state and federal laws on tort settlements, medical reversionary trusts, special needs trusts, macroeconomics, negotiation techniques, and business ethics.
It is a shame that this very bright and otherwise highly qualified individual has chosen to engage in needless false advertising.
