My March 4, 2008 post There is No Grace In A Kick Back which responded to Robert Risk's Bill Lerach Shows Class Amidst Personal Woes (a/k/a "Bill Lerach takes it Like a Man"-part of Robert Risk's URL for the post!) has met with this response today from Risk who tries to defend what he has said.
Risk now says "John, your blog posting about my blog earlier this month (re: Bill Lerach) insinuates that I said there is grace in paying a kickback. This is not true. I acknowledged Bill Lerach's crime and punishment (i.e.allegedly paying kick backs). His grace came in how he handled his personal woes under prosectuion (sic.)(for allegedly paying a kick backs), not what he did to be prosecuted (for allegedly taking a kick backs), which by all accounts was wrong and lacked judgement. (sic.)"
I see no point to Risk's initial post other than as a platform to blast corporate America and a weak misplaced attempt to promote the good that trial lawyers do. If you want to promote the good that trial lawyers do, I submit that doing so in a post on Lerach's woes (generated because of his role in an alleged kick back scheme for which Lerach serves a 2 year prison sentence) is not the place to do it
The Governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer, has also made an effort "to show grace". It does not absolve him, however, of what he is accused of (involvement in a prostitution ring) while an elected official. If Spitzer caves to pressure and resigns, and then Kudlow and Company delivers a Spitzer blast , shall we expect similar commentary from Risk?
There are many out there who are also tempted but DO NOT give in to the temptation (e.g. Derek Jeter of The New York Yankees)

The "Embodiment of Grace "can be found in this video. For Robert Risk to describe Bill Lerach in the same category as Mother Teresa, The Embodimnent of Grace, for Lerach's "copping a plea", is just "super settlement" silly.
