Structured Settlements 4Real®Blog 2026

Structured settlements expert John Darer reviews the latest structured settlements and settlement planning information and news, and provides expert opinion and highly regarded commentary. that is spicy, Informative, irreverent and effective for over 20 years.

Michael Asseff's Structured Asset Funding picks up where 123 Lump Dumb leaves off with this "dumb ass" proposed rationale as to why you might sell your structured settlement payment rights:

"New Car / Boat / RV
Enjoy the thrill of your dream car or boat, or travel in style in a new RV. Turn the monotony of uninspired transportation into a distant memory"  Link

Like the unrealistic image of the infinity pool in the 123 Lump Dumb ad, Asseff's other company shows a picture of a red high performance sports car that appears to be a Ferrari Testarossa or Lamborghini. Just like the "undercover brother" with the big card board check in the 123 Lump Dumb ads. Asseff's apparent target audience is the unsophisticated 18-30 year old. Yeah that's right… it's "Asseff" the company is trying to get dimwitted suckers to believe that they should give up their future financial security for a deep discount so that they can live beyond their means. I can't even see the JG Wentworth spokeman's voice weighing in with "it's you're money, use it when you need it on a $200,000 car", and pay the luxury tax. Beyond ROI, LLC is the company that proudly displays that it designed this "prequel to a tragedy".

The other part of the "undynamic duo" is Woodbridge Investments, LLC. In my opinion, Woodbridge Investments, LLC continues to sink towards the morality abyss with its latest letter sent to consumers, including one Rhonda C. Bentzen, on September 14, 2007. Ms. Bentzen is a competitor of Woodbridge which shows you how "well" Woodbridge Investments maintains its mailing lists.

As you can see Woodbridge Investments, LLC sales manager Scott Schwartz is offering, among other things, a 42 inch Plasma TV if you sell your structured settlement payment rights to Woodbridge. To which the following comes to mind.

With its upcoming annual meeting  members of the National Association of Settlement Purchasers (NASP) ought to be discussing how such advertising negatively impacts on their industry. Let's see some public denouncing of such behavior from within.

Structured Settlements 4Real is interested in compiling any written solicitations, letters or emails you or your clients have received from Woodbridge Investments, LLC which offer incentives in excess of $50 to get you or your client to sell structured settlement payment rights. If you have any in your possession please contact this author by email.

I dont’ understand why you’re gunning for these guys who offer to purchase structured settlements… no different than the way my bank offers goodies if you sign up a new account.. its all marketing.

Thanks for your comment Ric. What you are missing is that structured settlements are designed for long term financial security. It is true that a person’s needs can change or an emergency can arise AND they may have exhausted other less expensive sources of cash. The incentives offered by Woodbridge and others are far more than a $20 toaster. Read the articles again. The concern is that a person may have the incentive to sell their payments just to get a TV, Mercedes, trip to Hawaii etc. This is not prudent financial planning. By your logic, speaking hypothetically, would you also think it acceptable marketing that a company advertises that it will get strippers for paraplegics with structured settlements?
The fact that such behavior exists is solely due to the an unbalanced lack of regulaton on advertising practices. Such behavior would NOT be acceptable to regulators of insurance, securites, viatical or life settlements.

That’s somewhat antithetical for someone who purportedly works for the Pennsylvania Attorney General. Our concern is to educate consumers, lawyers and judges so that they don’t get taken advantage of. The article upon which you comment deals with two companies which attempt to entice consumers in ways that would simply not be permitted in a regulated industry
