SSE Capital Funding recently mentioned Structured Settlement 4Real’s Structured Settlement Advertising Wall of Shame and Alert to Regulators category in a favorable light on its website. This is further recognition that some factoring companies have begun to distance themselves from the predatory on line advertising practices of other factoring companies buying structured settlement payment rights from structured settlement recipients. Previously Structured Settlements 4Real reported the positive change in advertising practices of Prosperity Partners, Inc. and Settlement Capital who recognized the potential for confusion. These can only be seen as positive moves for consumers with structured settlements as the good guys do not want to be tagged with same brush as the bad guys.
I continue to urge factoring companies engaging in the practice of purchasing structured settlement payment rights to examine their on line and print advertising practices and to change any direct or indirect behavior that suggests that they are a business or selling a product that they are not or could in anyway serve to confuse the consumer. Consumers and attorneys should consider a boycott of those companies, engaging in the purchase of strucured settlement payment rights, that practice such behavior an should not do any business with a company that is not registered to do business in your state. Most states have an online search capaability so that you can see if a company is registered through the secretary of state.
