Structured Settlements 4Real®Blog 2026

Structured settlements expert John Darer reviews the latest structured settlements and settlement planning information and news, and provides expert opinion and highly regarded commentary. that is spicy, Informative, irreverent and effective for over 20 years.

Positive change is always good.

Wednesday’s Structured Settlement Advertising Wall of Shame highlighted the pathetic attempts by Novation Capital and Sovereign Financial Group ("SFG") to turn an educational tool like Wikipedia into a factoring free for all. This was a significant public relations backfire by both entities which has to dent their credibility with trial lawyers, plaintiffs and financial advisors! No way can they feign ignorance about it either. I would love to have been a fly on the wall at the marketing meeting with the geniuses that brought that idea up. Fortunately by 11pm on May 18, 2006 the Wikipedia was stripped of the detritus left by these unconscionables. It’s just one more example that I can share with regulators about the ethics of such companies as we strive for new consumer protections to be put in place.
