According to postings in a forum at 123notary.com, an online guide for finding a mobile notary public in your area,  settlement purchaser JG Wentworth stiffed a number of notary publics that did work for them in a number of jurisdictions in 2005.

Updating this post (3/30/2006) and carrying forward into the first quarter of 2006 I have come across a more recent thread on The Notary Board from March 24, 2006 which carries the same theme about JG Wentworth's treatment of its notary publics.

Updating this post again (06/06/2006) and carrying forward into mid- 2006 I have come across a new thread on 123Notary from May 3, 2006 which carries the same theme about JG Wentworth's poor treatment of its notary publics

Notaries need to develop better means of building their businesses that lead to higher fees and quicker payments. It is a trend that companies regenerate themselves to take advantage of notary public by paying bottom feeder fees and demanding ridiculous compliance criterion and subject notaries to fee deductions.
Signing services with adverse intent to take advantage of notaries easily recognize that 123notary.com provides a breeding ground for signing services to take want to take advantage of notaries. Notary publics need to be more resourceful, proactive, market focused and learn to screen callers to determine where they found out about their company, and be willing to only accept assignments from companies that are willing to allow an invoice be placed in escrow.
Many of notaries are too eager to have an assignment probably because they enjoy the work they perform. It is time for out of the box thinking and business management is required to increase cash flows and profits. Gas is too expensive to wait 30, 60 or 90 days to get paid or not paid at all!
Notaries need to also be more thoughtful as to the price of services rendered. $25.00 for accepting e-docs is completely ridiculous considering the time required to print and monitor printing, cost of paper and ink, and the hassle you often have using some viewers. Notaries need to develop an ouch-factor when accepting assignments from signing services.
Cursory due diligence on the part of a notary can save hours of frustration and anxiety. You must be willing to lose in order to win. Don’t be so willing to take chances on companies like JG Wentworth. A snake is a snake, if they screwed one notary, they’ll screw you also. It will only become a matter of time.
