"When compared with the limited flexibility of a lump sum payment, the structured settlement is a powerful tool for plaintiffs, allowing them to make the best choice for their future and that of their families"- Forge Consulting, LLC January 24, 2009

I stand by the Constitutonal right of every American to exercise their right to free speech, even if they are delivering such a FORGEtful line of marketing B.S. There are many reasons to consider a structured settlement as part of your recovery or your client's recovery, but the limited flexibility of a lump sum IS NOT one of them.

Let's see … with a lump sum payment you can:

  • Roll around in It    Accountant_playing_in_money_sm_clr
  • Spend it on "food, clothing, shelter, medical expenses, education, etc"
  • Place it (or have it placed on your behalf) in a trust
  • Pay off your mortgage
  • Invest it
  • Save it
  • Have it available AT ANY time
  • Make paper airplanes with it

Hold on to it Business_stickman_riding_on_money_sm_clr(2) in reserve

  • Start a business

If a lump sum is that inflexible then can FORGE explain THIS?

Or perhaps this piece of misinformation appearing on the Forge Consulting website just over a year ago?

It stands to reason that tort victims and their attorneys benefit from the articulate delivery of accurate information.  It further stands to reason that the National Structured Settlement Trade Association (NSSTA) and the Society of Settlement Planners, both of which count FORGE Consulting  as a member, would encourage their members to express themselves accordingly.

Thankfully FORGE Consulting does not speak for the structured settlement industry, even though for no apparent reason NSSTA has placed one of the FORGE principals in charge of membership. If two members of NSSTA Board of Directors cannot properly articulate the nature of the Certified Structured Settlement Consultant designation, why should that surprise anyone?
