Woodbridge Structured Funding delivered a Lump of Coal to New York City Personal Injury lawyers Paris & Chaikin and its partners, by filing a $12 million legal malpractice lawsuit over 19 structured settlement transfer orders that were allegedly forged by one of the law firm's former paralegals, Thomas Rubino.
The latest suit against Paris & Chaikin is one of a barrage of lawsuits brought against Paris & Chaikin and its partners by former clients and annuity obligors stemming from the admitted forgeries of Rubino.
Woodbridge alleges that "even the most cursory review of a docket in a single one of the cases would have alerted Defendants to the Paralegal's conduct" and that Paris & Chaikin and its partners Jason Paris and Ian Chaikin failed to "ever" uncover Rubino's conduct through their own diligence but were instead alerted when a court "expressed concern"
Woodbridge claims out of pocket losses in excess of $1 million as the result of the alleged Paris & Chaikin legal malpractice that continue to accrue. Woodbridge claims that Paris & Chaikin's alleged "malpractice has left Woodbridge in the position of having to defend claims made by annuity obligors seeking to recover the administrative expenses these third parties have allegedly incurred in the transactions…"
