What is Court Scraping?
“Mining for Gold” by Structured Settlement Factoring Prospectors, known as Court Scrapers
Court scraping is like hunting for treasure, except the treasure for structured settlement factoring companies themselves, or through surrogates, is people’s personal info hidden in court-approved settlements or structured settlement transfers.
The goal? To find annuitants and bombard them with so much direct mail, phone calls, and other approaches that it feels less like a sales pitch and more like an endurance test. Some might even call it harassment, but hey, who doesn’t love relentless attention?
Many court documents can be found online these days, sometimes for free, other times for a small charge. If not available on line, settlement purchasers dispatch representatives directly, or through the company they outsource to, to pay a visit to the courthouse and obtain the records.
