The email address davidmac20 (at) gmail.com that appears on the whois record for all of these domain registrations turns out to be that of a former employee with Fairfield Funding.
Bogus domain registrations concern The Structured Settlement Watchdog®, because bogus domain registrations enhance the potential for bad actors in the structured settlement factoring industry (or any industry in which services that are about providing advice about money, handling money or disposition of financial assets) are being merchandised), or those acting at the direction or in concert with them to confuse and abuse consumers.
While we are not implying that the former employee of Fairfield Funding has acted improperly, we strongly question the motives of anyone utilizing a website targeting vulnerable American consumers for their personal information without prominently displaying the company’s legal name and essential contact details.
How Consumers Can Help Protect Themselves from Bad Factoring Actors
- Verify the domain name registration of any website you visit. Avoid non-U.S websites that use privacy registration and lack a legitimate address within the United States. Similarly, avoid U.S. websites with privacy-protected domain registration if they do not provide valid contact information on their website.
- Avoid filling out or submitting any online on websites, unless you enjoy the thrill of mystery emails and surprise calls from strangers. Keep your personal details safe and don’t fuel the chaos!.
- Check to see if the company soliciting you is registered to do business in your state. Because no licensing or even registration may be required at the moment due to a regulatory brain fart, this may be the only way to know in advance how easy or difficult it would be to seek redress if things go wrong. For example, as you can see above, the Missouri Secretary of State shows no record for Green Dog Funding despite the fact that the domain registration of the website that Green Dog uses to solicit business shows an address in the state. For “bits and kibbles” I also checked Connecticut and New York and they too came up empty for Green Dog Funding.
- Contact The Structured Settlement Watchdog® with any information that could assist other structured settlement consumers who are considering establishing a structured settlement or have been approached to sell their structured settlement payments.
