Structured Settlements 4Real®Blog 2026

Structured settlements expert John Darer reviews the latest structured settlements and settlement planning information and news, and provides expert opinion and highly regarded commentary. that is spicy, Informative, irreverent and effective for over 20 years.

In his blog "Super Settlement Planning" Robert A. Risk, II, a broker with Settlement Professionals, Inc., doing business as Structured Settlement Sevices, LLC, out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, pontificates about corporations being bad for corporations (to counter the tort reforming proponents he saw on Kudlow and Company). Risk's writing diverts from the point of its title "Bill Lerach Shows Class Amidst Personal Woes" .

Risk lionizes class action lawyer Bill Lerach for the way he took the kickback allegations against him "with grace"  by entering a guilty plea, "and saving tax payers the time and money of litigation" (Lerach received a 2 year prison sentence). Unfortunately, the URL for Risk's post (the url includes the phrase "Bill Lerach takes it like a man") has an unnerving triple entendre.

Risk should know "class" when he sees it. Back in 2004 and 2005 despite his firm's advertising that it serves the plaintiffs' bar and with no indication of anything else, Risk signed declarations under penalty of perjury on two occasions pursuant to 28 CFR 50.24 attesting to substantial defense experience in each of the preceding 3 years  The sole purpose the declarations is to be able to represent the United States Department of Justice in structured settlement transactions. Risk appeared on that list for two years while the firm held itself out on its website as serving the plaintiff bar.

While I'm just as disgusted with the shenanigans of convicted former corporate leaders, I find it a bit suspect that Risk appears to glorify a guy for the "grace" in the way he took the fall for allegedly taking kick backs while on the other hand his website posts stories of alleged kickback schemes involving others.

THERE IS NO GRACE IN A KICK BACK!
