A law suit was filed on June 8, 2007 in Palm Beach County Florida by Settlement Funding DBA Peachtree Settlement Funding against Imperial Finance & Trading, LLC (Case 502007CA009074XXXXMB), a company owned by Jonathan Neuman of Lake Worth, FL, according to records on file with the Florida Secretary of State. Why should I care you say?
Apparently Peachtree seeks an injunction against Imperial Finance & Trading, LLC and both parties have hired an expensive stable of legal talent. Lining up for Peachtree is local counsel Joel Rothman and Samuel B. Santo, Jr., David Wissert and Gina Sarracino of Roseland, NJ’s Lowenstein Sandler. Imperial has engaged at least 3 attorneys from high powered Boies Schiller & Flexner. OK, two companies want to beat each other up, who cares, right?
Well get this, the Court records show that on June 14, 2007 Deborah L. Benaim was listed as an intevening party. Readers may recall that Ms. Benaim, the former ra-ra "Director of Structured Settlements" for Peachtree, was let go earlier this year. It looks like a serious non compete issue, but stay tuned this could be interesting. Either way seems like a time consuming and expensive mess.
How consumers will benefit from this is anyone’s guess.
