The first thing that should tip you off that the author might be shoveling something is the name of the blog, "Structured Settlement Diggy Blog (dot) com".

Ken Austin has recycled "Is a Structured Settlement Equity Annuity In Your Best Interest", which was the subject of my commentary Bad Tipper on April 5, 2006. Among the pointsAustin makes:

  • "One attractive option is a structured settlement equity annuity. This provides the best balance between security of your principal (the settlement payout) and potential for growth. It pays you whichever is higher: a minimum guaranteed interest rate or stock market return. Equity refers to stocks, also called equities.
  • Most of this information comes straight from the structured settlement equity annuity pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you’ll know what they know.
  • If you decide to pursue a structured settlement equity annuity, take the time to research your choices thoroughly. Look for a long track record of successful returns and competent management. Don’t risk what you’ve won!
  • They prey on your desire to get a bunch of cash in hand as soon as possible. A skilled attorney can keep you from making poor decisions that are emotionally driven. He or she can also help you pick a structured settlement equity indexed annuity that will give you the best long-term results".

Ken Austin's Lack of Bona Fides on Structured Settlements

  1. There is no such thing as a structured settlement equity annuity.
  2. There is such thing as a structured variable income annuity.
  3. There is no minimum guaranteed interest rate with the only structured settlement annuity with an equity component at time of posting, MetLife's Settlement Plus.
  4. In a legal context, equity may refer to stocks (ownership interest in a corporation) OR it may refer to relief requested by the plaintiff, under common law, that is not a money award.
  5. I'll go out on a limb to state that the information that what Ken Austin is shoveling did not come straight from structured settlement equity annuity pros, because there are no such people.
  6. Since 2000 there has only been one single choice to research when it comes to structured variable income annuity, Met Life's Settlement Plus.

In addition to bogus "structured settlement expertise" Ken Austin is known for the following:
