Several structured settlement brokers recently received a solicitation from a Field Marketing Organization associated with a New York annuity wholesaler that states in its legal disclaimer (at the time of posting) "The products and services described on this site are available only in jurisdictions where they may be lawfully offered for sale in Canada (emphasis ours). The Owner may only solicit the sale of financial products and services for which the Owner has been duly licensed in the jurisdiction in which the sale occurs".
How's that supposed to help?
At the time of posting, the website in question lists no business address on its home page or contact is page and is registered using Domains By Proxy, a service of Go Daddy which masks the identity of the owner of the site. All the legal disclaimers refer to "the owner" but do not identify it.
I personally do not trust any organization that solicits me with an anonymous domain registration and doesn't have contact information other than a toll-free number. The Vancouver Canada company that created the website refused to reveal any information other than its client was a U.S. company when I called this morning.
Note: The notation "Beyond Structured Settlements" is used on the website of the firm in question. Beyond Structured Settlements is also the title of a blog written by Patrick Hindert of S2KM and TSSG. It is not believed that the two are related and no inference is intended.
