The Florida Board of Bar Examiners voted to adopt a formal policy
review applicants' social networking sites on a case-by-case basis, according to this recent report in Florida Bar News. This author has written several pieces providing subtle admonishment to industry colleagues about the growing number of employers and agencies surfing the
Internet and accessing social networking sites like Facebook and
MySpace to look for adverse information about applicants.
Be aware of your audience, in particular if who you have "friended" industry colleagues or clients and comport your self with the appropriate amount of gravitas. I thought it was needless to say but, random musings about dating, excessive drinking, or encounters with the law, or with felons, are probably not a good idea in status updates that are broadcast to industry colleagues and clients.
If you cannot help blabbing then at the very least be aware that all of the social networks have some level of granularity that can be adopted to assure that the story "stays in Vegas". Use it!
