Following a string of games with hits, New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter was a sure winner in this contest. That is, until he went on the 14 day DL. Despite "chubby" fingers and writer's cramp, "Wade Blogs" has slowly and steadily made up considerable ground and now the contest is, to borrow a phrase from the British press, "delicately poised". When the 3,000 hit challenge began last month there was a 53 "hit" gap that has been closed (at time of posting) to 18. "Blogs" said through his agent and brother "Joe", that he "wishes Derek a very speedy recovery".
