Kendall Coffey is a former United States attorney and practicing lawyer in Florida who, in 2009, mislabeled what Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein was peddling as structured settlements in a complaint against Scott Rothstein which sparked an outrageous media mislabeling frenzy.
Coffey was notably involved in the Elian Gonzalez case. Gonzalez , then a 6 year old boy found near the shores of Florida in 1999, after a boat escaping Cuba had capsized and killed most of the passengers, including Gonzalez’ mother. Relatives in the United States fought to keep Gonzalez, but he was eventually sent back to Cuba.

Former United States Attorney Kendall Coffey’s huge Rothstein blunder led to extensive media misinformation.. Kendall Coffey was later corrected on WPLG-TV by investor Alan Sakowitz, who noted that the legal settlements in question could NOT have been structured settlements.
